Launched in June 2023, the Hamary Awaz (Our Voice) Helpline revolutionizes worker protection in Pakistan by providing a powerful platform for reporting and resolving workplace concerns. Building on the success of the Amader Kotha Helpline, which has safeguarded over 1.5 million workers, we bring a proven model to Pakistan, combining expert local operators, in-factory training, and transparent protocols. Aligned with global standards like the UN Guiding Principles and the WEST Principles, our Helpline helps businesses and suppliers meet critical regulations like the CSDDD, ensuring a safer, more equitable work environment across industries.

Salaries below Minimum Wage

Issue

In early 2024, workers at a new supplier in Pakistan reported not receiving the new minimum wage and experiencing delayed salary payments.

Engagement and Resolution

The Helpline worked with the supplier and brand to address these grievances. The supplier increased the minimum wage for all workers and reviewed payroll records, acknowledging past delays.

Outcomes

The supplier committed to timely salary payments and assigned a monitor to prevent future delays. This intervention improved worker financial stability and strengthened labor compliance.

Ensuring Fair Compensation

Issue

Former garment workers contacted the Helpline, claiming they hadn’t received their gratuity payments. The supplier provided disputed documents showing payments with worker signatures.

Engagement and Resolution

Through collaboration between the Helpline, supplier, and brand, the supplier made outstanding payments to affected workers. Previous audits had missed these discrepancies.

The supplier and buyer worked together to enhance documentation processes, ensuring compliance and rectifying a critical oversight. This resolution brought justice to workers and strengthened the supplier’s systems.

Workplace Harassment

Issue

Two workers from a garment supplier contacted the Helpline, alleging that their male supervisor was harassing female workers, including verbal abuse. Despite previous internal reports, no action had been taken.

Engagement and Resolution

The supplier acknowledged the internal report and conducted an investigation through their Harassment Committee. The findings confirmed the allegations, revealing that the supervisor had engaged in inappropriate behavior despite previous training. Consequently, the supplier terminated his employment.

Outcomes

The workers confirmed that the alleged perpetrator was no longer their supervisor, ensuring a safer work environment for female workers. This successful intervention highlights the Helpline’s role in addressing critical labor rights issues that might otherwise go unaddressed.
